My bathroom vent fan died and I waited too long to replace it, so it got some mildew spots on the ceiling (along with 15 years of grunge). Bleach didn’t work very well, so I used this to repaint it. It did a perfect job of stain-blocking and the ceiling looks better than ever. It goes on thick and dries very flat and bright, so it’s great at hiding minor flaws too.

The only caveat is the color-changing feature. It is helpful and works as advertised, but at first the ceiling turned pink again every time I took a shower. I wiped some of the color off and the rest faded on its own after about 3 weeks, so it’s not a big deal. I still think I’ll stick with regular paint for high-humidity environments in the future, though.

I used this paint on my living room ceiling. I was impressed with the quality and look of my ceiling after painting. A few months later I needed to paint the ceiling in my kitchen, but I couldn’t find this paint anywhere. I settled for another reputable brand to finish the job. When I decided to touch up some spots in my living room (from extra work we had done) I had to use the other brand. Compared to this paint, the other paint looks yellowish. If you are looking for a crisp shade of white, this is the one.

Used this stain blocking color changing ceiling paint in our renovated dining room. After meticulously removing a popcorn cover, spackling and sanding the ceiling to a smooth surface, two coats of primer (yes, I know, one coat is sufficient, followed by two coats of a topcoat), we applied this Kilz ceiling paint. The results were, beyond question, notable. The color changing effect is a bit unsettling at first. However, given that we were not in a rush for the paint to dry, we allowed the drying process plenty of time and discovered an attractively painted ceiling the following morning. I still wander around the room, scrutinizing the ceiling from a variety of angles and light perspectives. I can only confirm that in my (and more importantly my wife’s) opinion, this ceiling paint left us with a stunningly even white ceiling. Thoroughly satisfied.

Point and spray, enough said. Obviously, be careful of overspraying which can cause pooling. If you aim and spray in second spurts until coverage is completed it will come out perfect.

Worked great on drop ceiling!, February 6, 2012

(note that this is made by Zinsser, not Rust Oleum). Bought Zinsser Covers Up at a home improvement store (see that it’s cheaper on Amazon – oh well). Used it on some drop ceiling tiles in my bathroom that had gottenn a large dark stain from a leak in an upstairs bathroom. Took a couple of coats, but worked great! Can’t see the stain at all. Had been dreading the thought of replacing the tiles – such a pain in my little bathroom – but saw this and thought I’d give it a try first. Glad I did!! Can’t stress enough that you will need to cover up both yourself and everything else in the room you’re spraying in. A lot of over-spray and since it dries so quickly could be hard to get off later. So wear a hat and use a drop cloth!

Covers good but what a smell and mess., May 9, 2014

Okay, this covers fine, dries super fast, and work okay for covering up stains on the textured ceiling but.. My goodness grief.. This stuff was so stinky and messy! I thought it would be okay if I covered just the kitchen stuff in plastic… but no way. The aerosol nature of this made little white particles (that dried instantly, so were very hard to clean off!) migrate into the adjacent room and even got underneath some of the plastic coverings on the walls!! This was also much smellier than classic paint and even with an exhaust going on high, windows open, and a face mask the house filled with this smell .. Plus, it was hard to tell where this was covering and it just wasn’t worth the mess or headache.. I ended up buying a can of regular ceiling paint.
